Rockmart takes its name from rock and market. The town was once a center of the roofing slate business, and the hills around it are rich in slate, limestone and clay. Today the Silver Comet Trail brings walkers and cyclists right through town and past Riverwalk Park, the Rockmart Downtown Historic District is on the National Register, and the Homespun Festival fills the streets each July.
