Sugar Valley is an unincorporated community in northwestern Gordon County, with a post office that dates to 1844 and a name that may come from a grove of sugar maples. Highway 136 runs through the heart of the valley, climbing north toward Snake Creek Gap, the pass Union troops used on their way to Resaca in 1864.
